“Julia y Fernando, una historia de vida” comenzó como un homenaje a los sociólogos Julia Varela y Fernando Álvarez-Uría. Sin embargo, Julia y Fernando no estaban de acuerdo con plantearlo en términos hagiográficos y contribuir a la cultura del yo-yo en la que estamos instalados. Su filosofía de vida está regida por dos principios: no somos nadie sin quienes nos precedieron, quienes nos acompañan en el viaje y quienes tienen que seguir el camino; y es necesario hacer sociedad: crear vínculos sociales que contribuyan a cambiar el mundo. Así pues, este documental ha terminado siendo un testimonio colectivo de parte de una generación, la del 68, que participaron en la Transición española y cuyo testigo han de recoger las nuevas generaciones.

"Julia and Fernando, A Life Story" started as a tribute to sociologists Julia Varela and Fernando Álvarez-Uría. Nevertheless, They did not agree with presenting them in hagiographic terms and contributing to current self-centered culture. Their philosophy of life is governed by two principles: firstly that we are no one without those who preceded us, those who accompany us on the journey and those who come after us; and secondly that it is necessary to create a society by establishing social bonds that contribute to changing of the world. With these principals in mind, this documentary became a collective testimony by a part of the 1968 generation that took part in Spanish Transition with the intent to inspire the new generation.
